In our world they say that nothing is free. In many cases that is certainly true. However, we at Slaughters Baptist Church have discovered the true free gift of salvation offered in Jesus Christ. Now we would like to share this same free gift with you. The greatest news you could ever discover is that God wants to have a personal relationship with YOU.

OUR NEED OF SALVATION:  Who is a sinner?
Romans 3:23 says, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” NKJV.  So that means everyone is a sinner.  Sin is doing what is wrong or not doing what is right according to God's rules (1 John 3:4). If God says "Don’t lie" and we lie, then we have sinned. If God says "Don’t steal" and we steal, then we have sinned. Sin separates us from God. And unfortunately, there is a penalty for that sin.

Romans 6:23 reads, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” NKJV. So, the "earnings" of our sin is death. It's not just physical death, but also a spiritual death that separates us from God. The cost of sin is too great for mankind to pay on his own. Our only hope is to have our debt canceled.

GOD’S LOVE AND JESUS’ SACRIFICE FOR US:  Who paid the price? The Gift of God is eternal life in His only begotten Son, Jesus.  Romans 5:8 reads, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we where still sinners, Christ died for us”  NKJV.  So, even though we are dead in our sins, God loves us so much that He sent His only begotten Son to die for the sins of the world. Jesus died on the cross to pay the penalty of our sin. He died as our substitute. His resurrection from the dead provides our eternal life.

The way to salvation is wondrously simple!  Romans 10: 9-10 says, “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” NKJV.  Being saved involves admitting to God that you are a sinner and repenting (turning) from your sin. Also you must believe (have faith) that Jesus is God’s Son, that He died on the cross as your substitute, and that God raised Him from the dead. Finally, you must confess Jesus as the Lord of your life and ask Him for forgiveness and eternal life. Salvation involves repentance and faith.

Would you like to ask Jesus to be your personal Savior and Lord by praying? In order to help you, here is an example of how you can pray to God:

God, I know that Jesus is your Son and that He died on the cross for me and was raised from the dead. Lord, I know that I’m a sinner. Please forgive me of my sins, come into my heart and save me. Jesus, I make you the Lord of my life. Thank you for giving me forgiveness and eternal life. In Jesus name, Amen.

If you prayed to God with a faithful and sincere heart, then congratulations! You have accepted God's free gift and you are now one of God’s children!  We encourage you to make that confession publicly through baptism and join a Bible believing church. Baptism is the first step of obedience a Christian should take after salvation. Church membership will also help you grow in your faith and allow you to experience fellowship with other believers in Christ. We at Slaughters Baptist Church would like to hear from you if you have accepted the Lord as your Savior. If you live nearby, we would love to meet you in one of our services!

God Bless!
