Church Membership

Why Join A Church?
You do not need to become a member to worship and fellowship with us. We welcome everyone. Yet church membership is an important commitment because it is a tangible expression of a life that is committed to Jesus Christ. Church membership has its theological basis clearly set forth in the New Testament. There is no evidence of anyone becoming a follower of Jesus Christ without being committed to the fellowship of a local church with other like-hearted individuals for the spread of the gospel. Church membership provides a place for service and ministry, and helps each person feel a greater connection to our fellowship. If you desire to join with us and support the beliefs, fellowship, and mission of our church, we warmly invite you to become a member.  You may present yourself as a candidate for church membership during any worship service.

How Do I Join?

New membership may be granted in three methods:
Profession of faith and request for baptism
After making public profession of faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and acceptance of Him as your personal Savior, you may request to be baptized. We welcome you not only as a brother or sister in Christ, but also as a member of our church family. Baptism will follow your decision at the next scheduled baptismal service.

Transfer of membership from another Southern Baptist Church
If you are currently a member of another Southern Baptist Church, we will receive you as a member upon promise of a letter from that church. Our church clerk will contact that church to notify them of your decision and request your letter. A "letter" is a written (or electronic) communication verifying your membership at your previous church and moving your membership to Slaughters Baptist Church.

Statement of faith
If you have previously made a public profession of faith, acknowledging that you have received Christ as your Savior and Lord, we will acknowledge that decision and welcome you to our church family. If you have not been scriptural baptized (by immersion as a believer, in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, as a symbol of your salvation), then you must be baptized.

Regardless of your church background, we invite you to speak to one of our ministers about your decision, so that we may answer any questions you may have regarding membership. We desire that you have every opportunity to grow as a disciple of Jesus Christ, and church membership is an important element in this growth process.
